What is Dîner en Blanc?
Hundreds or thousands of guests arrive at a secret location dressed head to toe in white. They set up their own tables, pour their own Champagne, and dine under the open sky in the heart of their city. No one knew exactly where they were going until moments before. And yet, somehow... everything is perfect.
That is Dîner en Blanc. And it returns to Raleigh soon!
Dîner en Blanc was founded in Paris in 1988 by François Pasquier , an informal gathering of friends, all in white, sharing a meal in a public space. What started as a simple idea became one of Paris's most beloved traditions. Today, Dîner en Blanc is hosted in more than 80 cities across six continents, each event locally produced while honoring the original Parisian spirit.
Dîner en Blanc is invitation-only. Guests must be invited by a returning member with a chain of invitations that has been part of the tradition from the beginning. Once registered, each guest arrives with their own folding white table, white chair, white linens, and a gourmet spread. The secret location is revealed only on the evening of the event. When the signal is given, white napkins wave in the air in unison, the iconic Dîner en Blanc greeting that marks the start of the evening.
All white. Elegant, always. No ivory, no cream, no exceptions. The effect of thousands of guests gathered in a single space, all dressed in white, is nothing short of breathtaking. The table matters just as much with fine china, decor, crystal stemware, fresh florals, and candlelight are the hallmarks of a well-prepared Dîner en Blanc table.
